Directions to "The Palatine" Course:

"The Palatine" -- the CRCofA first road race of the season and the Black River Course, the second road race of the season, all start and finish near the small town of Pottersville, less than a mile south of where the Somerset, Hunterdon, and Morris County lines converge.  Technically, parts of Pottersville are in both Hunterdon and Somerset counties.

The Pottersville General Store is an easy-to-locate landmark for those not familiar with the area.  We will station someone there to meet people before continuing to the race site.  Note that we cannot park at the store, and must proceed to the Start/Finish areas for parking.

Directions to Pottersville:

From the Somerville Circle, where Rt. 202, 206, 28 and 22 cross and converge just west of the town of Somerville:
  •
  • Select the left lanes in order to exit onto I-78 West toward Clinton.
  • Once on I-78, take the first exit, #26 onto Rt. 665 (AKA Rattlesnake Bridge Rd) north toward Lamington.
  • Right at stop sign, onto Rt. 523,  then Immediately left onto Black River Rd.
  • Continue north along the river for 4 miles to a stop sign where Rt. 512 comes in from the right--church on right corner.
  • Continue straight for less than a quarter mile; turn left with Rt. 512, cross the river, General Store is on the left.
To continue to the START/FINISH for "The Palatine":
  • Continue to follow Rt. 512 West up the hill.
  • Turn  at the third left, Hollow Brook Rd.
  • Descend short hill, turn left again at the second road, Homestead Rd.
  • Follow Homestead Rd. to a stop sign at Cold Spring Rd.
  • This is the START.  Park along Homestead Rd., before the stop sign.

Follow Rts. 202/206 north, past Bridgewater Commons mall and onto I-287 North.

  • Watch closely for a very obscure parking lot marked "Hacklebarney State Park Lot" which will be on the left.  If the road turns to dirt/gravel, you have gone too far.
